SEO is a process involving the modification of your online presence both on your website and off your website to improve your website rank and your online profile on the major search engines for relevant searches.
This is further divided up into two main areas, On Page SEO and Off page SEO.
The lines between these two SEO subsections can be a little grey and even within the industry there is some debate but to make it as straightforward as possible and assuming your website is the main target location that you want customers to end up at, then
ON Page SEO is the work you do on your website at the Content, Meta, Keyword, Outbound links level to improve your websites organic ranking on Major Search engines for relevant Searches.
OFF Page SEO is the work you do with your other online assets such as Blogs, Facebook, Social Media Pages, published Articles, Inbound Links etc to improve the profile of your domain name online.
The work done here will be different for each project based on Budget, Competition, Market, Industry, Customers etc but it will be focused along the line of
Social Media and SEO
This is a hot topic and fast growing area these days and covers the online marketing approach you should take with many of these sites. The Social media area is very important from an SEO & Advertising point of view for two main reasons
a) The Volume of Human traffic that uses these sites, Facebook, Google +, Linked in etc.
b) The weight given to a presence and the human reviews on the ssocial sites by Major Search Engines.
Yelp
Depending on the type of business you are running, a presence on Yelp at an organic level (as opposed to pay per click) is certainly a valid option, yelp generally ranks well on Organic search as it has a large number of human reviews to which Google and Bing give a substantial organic relevance.
In a well executed Search engine optimization project for a retail focused business it would be nice to rank well on page one for your Yelp page (with positive reviews) just after your own websites organic position.
We use Yelp as an example above, but the same principle applies to any of the Social Media referral websites, they are populated by human reviews and quality human reviews (preferably positive) are given substantial weight by major search engines.
Humans and Online Reviews
The Human aspect of Social Media ,SEO and Customer reviews cannot be overlooked. The major search engines using robots, algorithms and programs are constantly trying to determine what is the most “relevant” search result for a given search query.
The most relevant results (10 of them per page) are displayed in order and more and more weight is been given to human reviews both at the Social media, referral sites and on the actual website itself as a determining factor for which order the 10 top results are shown in.
For an E-Commerce website or a website selling services to the public, quality human reviews are an important part of any comprehensive search engine optimization project.
